Education

Foundation of the Future!

Newmarket is minutes away from the main campus of the University of New Hampshire, renowned for its outstanding business and science research colleges. Also nearby is the New Hampshire Technical College, part of a superb state post-secondary education system. These institutions produce a reservoir of highly qualified and educated staff and are dedicated to the training and retraining of employees for companies throughout the area.

The Newmarket School District has a long history of providing a solid, comprehensive educational program, consistent with the requirements of the NH Department of Education, to its students from preschool through high school.  The district takes particular pride in its small class sizes and teacher-to-student ratio.  Newmarket has an elementary school that is a "home away from home" for students in grades PK-5 and a junior-senior high school for grades 6-12.  The total student population at each school is approximately 530 students.

Students at the elementary school receive instruction in the core content areas as well as music, art, physical education, and technology.  Support is available to students who may need it through special education, Title 1 reading and mathematics, programming for English Language Learners, counseling and social work services, and additional reading and math intervention.  Elementary students have opportunities to participate in a number of after-school activities such as jump rope club, gardening club, robotics, and drama.

At the junior-senior high school, students are provided a wide range of course offerings including classes in Mandarin Chinese and Spanish and advanced placement classes. Beyond those classes offered at the junior-senior high school, students have the opportunity to take online courses through the Virtual High School and the Virtual Learning Academy (VLACS).  In addition, students from Newmarket are afforded the opportunity to enroll in classes at the Seacoast School of Technology in Exeter.  Middle and high school students are also able to participate in a variety of athletic offerings and activities including ping pong, Interact, Robotics, and Improv.

The school district is proud of its strong community partnerships and grateful for the support of its many volunteers. The elementary school continues to be recognized as a Blue Ribbon School for its volunteer support. The high school offers an Extended Learning Opportunity (ELO) program which is supported by numerous businesses within the town and beyond, including strong support from the Newmarket Business Association (NBA).
