Cemetery Trustee Meeting – September 25, 2013

Town Council Chambers

Present: Rich Alperin, Victoria Bram, Ed Pelczar

Excused: Mike Pelczar and Mike Provost

Meeting called to order at 7:03 p.m.

Minutes of the August 28, 2013 meeting were approved as amended.

Ed reported that the three trees have been cut down and five stumps have been ground at Riverside Cemetery. The Town crew has been in and loamed over the holes. There is no intent at this time to fix the asphalt area where the tree roots heaved the asphalt. The total cost of the work is $1,775.00.

Ed spoke with the Town Administrator regarding paying the bill from Capital Reserve and the Administrator stated that the Cemetery Trustees did not have to go before the Town Council for a Resolution to withdraw the funds. Ed left all the bids and all the Trustees paperwork off at the Administrators office and is hoping he will approve it on Thursday and then Ed will have the Trustees of Trust Funds issue a check.

It was decided to postpone the final reading of the Riverside Cemetery By Laws until more members are present.

It was also decided to postpone discussion of our 2014-2015 Budget request, until more members are present.

Victoria will measure the distance, in Riverside Cemetery, we are looking at so that we can get some idea of how much fencing would be needed to hopefully resolve our turtle issue in the spring. We need this information in order to estimate the cost of the fencing.

Rich read several headlines regarding the high cost of vandalism at cemeteries. Pushing over and damaging monuments along with stealing pieces of granite are problems that are facing many cemeteries today. The repair and replacement costs run into the thousands of dollars. Should we be doing something to be proactive?

Our next meeting will be Wed. October 23, 2013 at 7 p.m.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Edward Pelczar
