Arsenic Levels

The State of New Hampshire has lowered the the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) for arsenic in drinking water from 10 parts per billion (ppb) to 5 ppb to begin on October 1, 2019. The Town currently pumps water into the Newmarket water system at a level of 6 ppb. Communites will have two years to get into compliance. The Town is currently designing to upgrade the blending facility to a water treatment facility. The new facility will be able to treat water from the MacIntosh and Tucker Wells with arsenic levels of 10 and 12 ppb respectively. Based on piloting the new facility will be pumping water into the water system with arsenic levels around 2 ppb. Well below the new 5 ppb MCL.
