Current Projects

  • Granite access steps and railings at the G.A.R. civil war memorial.
  • Filming of approximately twenty -five veterans from World War II and Korean War. This is an on going project that involves a pre-interview as well as the actual filming of the veterans. These filmings have been done individually as well as in a group setting. The programs have been and are currently being shown on public access channel 13 and are available at Newmarket Public Library.
  • Renovation of the bandstand war memorial.
  • Sponsoring informational historical and veterans oriented programs.
  • Informational booth at Olde Home Weekend and the Newmarket Heritage Festival.  At these events we have displayed our collection of approximately 1300 photographs that have been gathered by our committee members.
  • Biographical sketches of our deceased veterans.
  • Compiling a database of Newmarket's twelve hundred veterans. Located within this website you can search a veterans name and find such things as their birth date and place, enlistment and discharge dates, units they served in and other important information.
  • In conjunction with the American Legion the committee has renewed the Veteran's Day celebration in Newmarket with a program that local organizations such as the Boy Scouts have had a hand in.
  • The bridge over the Lamprey River. In 2008 the NH State Senate passed a bill designating the bridge “The Newmarket Veteran's Bridge”. The bridge was formally dedicated on May 16, 2009.
  • Also on May 16, 2009 there was a program honoring those Newmarket veterans that gave their lives in service to the United States.
  • May 1st, 2009- flag raising ceremony at the Newmarket Town Hall. This was for silver star flag banner day honoring our wounded and ill servicemembers.
