Updated Preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMS) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS)
The Town of Newmarket has received copies of the new Preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) and a Flood Insurance Study (FIS) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), US Department of Homeland Security. These new maps represent a coastal study that was completed for Rockingham County. The purpose of this effort is to provide the Town with updated flood hazard information that can be used for mitigation actions and planning in order for the Town to become more resilient to flood hazards.
The FIRM and FIS report are the basis for the floodplain management measures that the Town of Newmarket must have in place in order to qualify for participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). In addition, the FIRM and FIS reports will be used by insurance agents, and others to calculate appropriate flood insurance premiums for new buildings and their contents.
We have been asked to widely circulate these maps in the community to provide an opportunity to identify changes or corrections to non-technical information. These may include corporate limits, road names, bridges, stream names, etc. The maps are available for public viewing in the Planning Office of the Newmarket Town Hall, at 186 Main Street, Newmarket, NH, 03857.
If you have questions regarding the maps or the process for appeals, please contact the Planning Office and we will direct you to appropriate agency representatives to assist you.
