Cemetery Trustee Meeting Minutes

March 18, 2009

Attending: Mike Pelczar, Ed Pelczar, Mike Provost, Raphael Roman

Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m.

Minutes of the Sept. 10, 2008 meeting were approved as amended.

There was a discussion about the work done so far at the Old Town Cemetery. Cemetery Trustees want to have another Community Service Day this spring. M. Provost will contact Anneliese to see what days Club Chameleon would be available to spread more loam and do additional plantings, and we will pick a date. Mike will also speak with Rick M. to see if the town crew can remove some of the trees on the top of the tomb. We don’t want the tree roots to cave in the top of the tomb. Mike will also talk with Rick about our thoughts of a pressure treated wood gate for the two entrances to the cemetery. Ed Pelczar will contact the American Legion and the Son’s of the American Legion to have them replace the flag and rope on the flagpole. Ed will also email Kai to see what his scheduling looks like to return to repair and clean more stones in the cemetery.

M. Provost recently walked thru the Old Town Cemetery, and some type of animal has taken up residence in the trunk of the oak tree near the front of the cemetery. We’ll have to assess the situation and the tree may need to be removed. If it is removed it will have to be taken down in sections, using a crane, so as not to damage monuments in the area. Mike will talk with Rick.

Ed passed out a copy of his presentation to the Town Council on Feb. 26, 2009.

There was a discussion about our Capital Reserve account. We have about $4,900 presently in the account. The Council issued Resolution 2008/09-01 on July 16, 2008 authorizing it’s withdrawal for work on the stones. Sometime before June 30, 2009 the Town will be adding another $15,000 to continue this work. We will need to request another Resolution. The proposal to add $5,000 to the cemetery capital reserve in the year 09-10 has not been voted on yet.

We are one member short of a full board. Ed will speak with someone that has expressed an interest in being a Cemetery Trustee. We also are going to look at who’s term expires this year.

M. Provost, in behalf of the Tree Committee, inquired about the trees along the fence at Riverside Cemetery. As the older trees are removed we need to consideration what trees might be best suited for that area.

Our next meeting will be April 22, 2009, at 7 p.m.

Meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.

Respectfully submitted

Edward Pelczar
