Joining the NPD Team

The Newmarket Police Department accepts resumes for police officer and civilian positions within the department on an ongoing basis. These resumes are kept on file for a period of one year. At the time of an opening, depending upon the number of applicants on file, the agency will advertise the opening to increase the number of applicants. Currently Newmarket Police Department has no openings:

Police Officer Candidates

Police Officers in the State of New Hampshire are required to be certified by the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council. There are two levels of certification, Part-Time Officer and Full-Time Officers. Part-Time Officers are required to complete a 100-hour certification course administered by NHPSTC. Full-time Officers are required to complete a fourteen week in-residence intensive training course at the NHPSTC’s Academy in Concord. In order to attend either the Part-Time Officer Certification Course or the Full-Time Academy a candidate must first be hired by a police department.

Candidates for the position of both Part-Time and Full-Time Police Officer must successfully complete the following process:

Written Examination
Physical Agility Examination
Oral Review Board
Background Investigation
Psychological Examination
Polygraph Examination
Medical Examination

In addition to the hiring process and the Police Academy Certification, a newly hired officer must also complete an extensive in-house Field Training Program designed to familiarize the officer with the Town of Newmarket, and the policies and procedures unique to our agency. This Field Training Program is rigorous and must be completed successfully before an officer is offered a solo-assignment.

Dispatcher Candidates

Emergency Dispatchers play a crucial role in providing law enforcement, fire and rescue and emergency medical services to our residents. They are the communications link between the public and all first responders. They must be able to multi-task, handle stressful situations, and be very detailed oriented. Candidates for Full-Time or Part-Time Dispatcher positions must complete the following process:

Oral Review Board
Background Investigation
Polygraph Examination
