Cemetery Trustee Meeting Minutes

Jan. 23, 2008

Attending: E. Pelczar, R. Alperin, M. Provost

Excused: M. Pelczar, L. F. Getchell

The Minutes of the Nov. 28, 2007 were approved as amended.

Ed Pelczar brought up our request for $15,000 to be put in our C.I.P. fund for the 2008-2009 year. The C.I.P. committee has recommended changing the amount to $10,000. The Cemetery Trustees feel that it should remain at $15,000 since a lot of work needs to be done at the Old Graveyard. Ed Pelczar said he would email the Town Administrator to see what amount is being put into the proposed budget.

This week Ed received two bids for restacking the stone wall around the cemetery. We are hopeful to get two more bids in the near future. Once we have at least 3 bids we’ll discuss them. We discussed if the work would be able to be done this winter since there is very little frost in the ground. It was decided that once we select a vendor to do the work we’ll talk with him to see if he thinks it feasible to do the work this winter. We don’t want the grounds disturbed any more than absolutely necessary.

Once a vendor is selected the Trustees will request to be placed on a Town Council meeting to ask for approval to expend funds for this project.

Mike suggested that rather than filling in the opening on the East wall we put in some pressure treated wood posts with rails, to act as a gate. Rocks would not have to be taken from other areas of the wall to fill in this space.

Mike was going to get an estimate on pulling out the chain link fence in the cemetery, along the South wall. It’s about 200’ long. Maybe Scott Foster would take it and install it outside of the cemetery, along the same wall.

Maybe we can get some loam from the Town and contact the Boy Scouts and other volunteers to fill in the sunken graves in the cemetery. This will help with mowing. A good warm weather project!

Mike was going to make some contacts about getting the scrub brush along the East wall pulled out rather than cutting it. This will improve the appearance along that wall.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 27, 2008.

Meeting adjourned at 8:25 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Ed Pelczar
