Newmarket is minutes away from the main campus of the University of New Hampshire, renowned for its outstanding business and science research colleges. Also nearby is the New Hampshire Technical College, part of a superb state post-secondary education system. These institutions produce a reservoir of highly qualified and educated staff, and are dedicated to the training and retraining of employees for companies throughout the area.
The community of Newmarket educates 1142 students from Preschool through grade twelve. Students in Preschool through grade five are provided learning environments at the Newmarket Elementary School and students from grade six through twelve attend the Newmarket Jr./Sr. High School.
At the elementary level all students are given a comprehensive program that includes the basics, Math, Reading, English, Social Studies and Science. In addition, programs are provided in Art, Music, Physical Education and Technology. An array of programs support student learning at both the primary and secondary level. English Language Learning, Remedial Reading, Special Education services such as Speech and Language, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy are a part of the overall program to ensure student success. Along with comprehensive academic curricula, students have opportunities to participate in a number of after school activities such as Chess Club, Jump Rope and Enrichment Classes.
At the high school, students are provided a wide range of course offerings from foreign language classes in Spanish and French to advanced placement classes in the areas of Math and Science. A recent addition to the course offerings was provided through the Virtual High School an online class initiative. Newmarket High School is a participating member of the program, which allows the students to avail themselves of a wide variety of elective course offerings. In addition, students from Newmarket are afforded the opportunity to enroll in classes at the Seacoast School of Technology in Exeter and at the Dover Vocational Center.
The staff and student body pride themselves in receiving the State of New Hampshire 2003 Sportsmanship Award for Class M schools. The after school offerings include both inter and intra scholastic athletic teams as well as the array of clubs and student organizations found at the high school level.
The school district is proud of the strong partnerships that have been developed in the community. At the elementary level the school has been recognized as a Blue Ribbon School for their efforts in volunteerism. In addition, excellent partnerships have been established at the high school level with the University of New Hampshire and with major corporations such as Timberland. The district supports a strong School to Career Program from Kindergarten through grade twelve. Numerous businesses in the town support the efforts of this initiative.
