ELECTION RESULTS

The reporting of the election results would not be complete without taking a moment to make some important acknowledgements…..

It was an excellent election and most importantly, a “GREAT COMMUNITY DAY” which would NOT have been possible without the assistance and TEAMWORK of so many, and I think it is extremely important to acknowledge everyone’s good work (much of what is not visible to the public).

“It takes a village …… “  and here’s why we should be proud of ours

1)      The election pre-planning and cooperation of Town and School Officials (Town Administrator, Moderator, Public Works Director, Police Chief, Superintendent, HS Principal, School Head Custodian, and TC-TC)

2)      The (truly) amazing organized team effort in retrieving and assembling all of the signs, equipment, ballots, voting machine, booths, rails, cones, posts, etc., etc., etc., and conversion of the HS GYM in to an ‘awesome’ polling place on Monday evening  by our Moderator, Public Works staff, the School Head Custodian, Town and School IT Directors, and TC/TC staff.  It was something to behold, and I truly wish our citizens could have seen it….made me proud to be affiliated with all of these people.  Then in the late hours of the evening, the polling place simply ‘disappeared’ and returned the Gym to the students—as though nothing ever happened. J

3)      The extraordinary accuracy and ‘pleasant attitude’ in providing effective instruction, information, and assistance to our voters by our election officials and police officers (both inside and outside the polling place), including the Supervisors of the Checklist, Inspectors of Election (a/k/a Ballot Clerks), Moderator, entire staff of TC/TC office….over a very long day (beginning at 6 am and ending at 11:15 p.m.)

4)      The planning, shopping, and preparation of food for all of the election workers.

5)      The 6 – 8 HS social studies and civics classes and their teachers who came, observed, and learned from their Town Moderator and Town Clerk about how the Primary Election process works, how our own Town government process works….including the upcoming Deliberative Sessions and elections….and an excellent example of the passion with which our Town Moderator administers his duties in ensuring that all residents and voters are afforded their constitutional right to participate in a fair and controlled manner.

6)      The ‘let’s get it done’ attitude and careful tabulation of results by the full Council.

7)      The ‘over-the-top’ accurate manual counting of the marked checklist (as required by Secretary of State/State Law) by our Ballot Clerks and Supervisors until the very late hours last night of:

a.       Republicans who voted:  1479

b.      Democrats who voted:  501

c.       Undeclared who voted Rep.:  669

d.      Undeclared who voted Dem.:  74

e.      Absentee Republicans who voted:  35

f.        Absentee Democrats who voted:  4

g.       Absentee Undeclared who voted Republicans:  11

h.      Absentee Undeclared who voted Democrat:  2

i.         Undeclared who took Republican ballots and RETURNED BACK to Undeclared:  680

j.        Undeclared who took Democrat ballots and RETURNED BACK to Undeclared:  76

k.       New Voters….how many Dems (84), Reps (29) , and Undeclared (114):  TOTAL 227

l.         The (new) total number of voters (by Rep (974), Dem (2137), & Undeclared (2751)) at the end of the election night:  5862

Our reports were prepared, signed and delivered by the Newmarket Police Department (as required by SOS) leaving Town Hall at 11:15 p.m. to Troop A, and then sent on to Concord.  Results were emailed to all media sources who had requested results:  WMUR, Exeter Newsletter, Union Leader, Associated Press.  (Foster’s came by during the election but did not request our results).

5,635 on checklist at start of day; 2,037 ballots cast:  37% turnout

Happy Post-Election Day!

THANK YOU TO ALL!!!!
